31 Days of Horror: Day 30-- Halloween Eve Odds and Ends

I always save the post for the 30th as a catch all of all of the things I could not fit into the planned posts.

So here are a few odds and ends for this Halloween Eve:

• Some people like to celebrate Halloween without candy. If you are looking for a way to mark the day by giving back, might I suggest a charity that I have personally given money to-- Scares that Care. It is a horror community charity [501c3] that gives money to seriously ill children, women fighting breast cancer, and burn victims. Click here for more information.
• Rue Morgue is a great magazine both in print and online. You can click here to see what they have to offer. I especially like The Week in Horror reports that run down everything in the genre of note for every week. It is a great quick stop for library workers to stay up to date.
• Speaking of magazines, I also highly recommend Apex Magazine, Nightmare Magazine, Lamplight Magazine [specifically the Horror 101 columns], and Cemetery Dance Magazine.
• This list of Halloween reading from Boston.com is great because it hits at all age levels of readers, plus it “thinks outside the box,” offering books like Candy Freak to adults who want to get in the spirit but don’t want to read horror. Well done Boston.com. I’m impressed.
• University Press of Mississippi is counting down the final days before Halloween with curated reading lists. From their site:

• What do the Brits think of Halloween? The Guardian has an entire Halloween archive. You could spend hours going through this.
• Don’t forget about Lisa Morton’s fantastic nonfiction book on the history of Halloween which I posted about here back in 2012 when it came out; including a Why I Love Horror pice by Morton herself.
