31 Days of Horror: Day 5-- #HorrorForLibraries Giveaway 142 and Why I Love Horror...the Webinar

As I have mentioned a few times, while the #HorrorForLibraries giveaway runs year round every Thursday, this month, it is going to be a little different. But Becky, you may be asking, today is Thursday, so what's so different?

That's a great questions.

I purposely made this week as "normal" as possible to ease you all into the October changes. So today, I have 2 books here today, for 2 winners but next week, I will be offering 3 books, on 3 different days, to 3 different people. I am still only going to pick winners once a week, at the end of each week, and I will make it clear when eligibility for each giveaway begins, but why wait to see what is coming. As you will see below, you can enter now and remain entered going forward.

Details below, but first, here is how you enter:

  1. You need to be affiliated with an American public library. My rationale behind that is that I will be encouraging you to read these books and share them with patrons. While many of them are advanced reader copies that you cannot add to your collections, if you get the chance to read them, my hope is that you will consider ordering a copy for your library and give away the ARC away as a prize or pass it on to a fellow staff member.
  2. If you are interested in being included in any giveaway at any time, you must email me at zombiegrl75 [at] gmail [dot] com with the subject line "#HorrorForLibraries." In the body of the email all you have to say is that you want to be entered and the name of your library.
  3. Each entry will be considered for EVERY giveaway. Meaning you enter once, and you are entered until you win. I will randomly draw a winner on Fridays sometime after 5pm central. But only entries received by 5pm each week will be considered for that week. I use Random.org and have a member of my family witness the "draw"based off your number in the Google Sheet.
  4. If you win, you are ineligible to win again for 4 weeks; you will have to re-enter after that time to be considered [I have a list of who has won, when, and what title]. However, if you do not win, you carry over into the next week. There is NO NEED to reenter if you haven't won.
Click here to see giveaway #141.  Our winners were Sandra from Burlington [MA] Public Library and Kris from Boston [MA]Public Library. Now on to today's giveaway.

The first book being offered was teased yesterday, and it is for A Light Most Hateful by Hailey Piper. Click here to see my draft review and notes for the STAR review of this novel in the current issue of Library Journal. I think this statement says it all about this book, its depth, its appeal, and its staying power, "If Neil Gaiman, Mary Shelley and Shirley Jackson could birth a book baby, this stunning novel would be the outcome."

And if you want to see me talking with Piper about this book and more, you can join her, me, Stephen Graham Jones, Paul Tremblay, and Alma Katsu in a virtual discussion for Wake County Libraries on October 11th. It is free to all. Click here for all of the details and to register to join us.

This copy is an ARC.

The second book being offered (and to the second name I draw) is a book I gave a STAR to in the August issue of Booklist, The Dead Take the A Train by Richard Kadrey and Cassandra Khaw. And thanks to Tor Nightfire, it is a finished hard cover copy!!!!

Click here for details on this book. Also, please note, Kadrey and Khaw both have stories in the Datlow edited anthology I reviewed in the current issue of Booklist as well.

You can also click here too read my interview with Khaw from the July 2023 issue of Library Journal.

So many STARRED books being offered in the giveaway today.

Enter now and you are entered going forward.

Good luck!
