As many of you know, in 2013 my job title changed from plain old RA librarian to RA/Teen Services Librarian. Since this is a new job for me, I have turned to an expert for help in giving an overview of YA Horror.
Kelly, librarian and blogger at the wonderful YA themed Stacked, recently wrote a feature article on Teen Horror for School Library Journal entitled, "Horror in YA is a Staple, Not a Trend."
In the article, Kelly breaks down the appeal of horror to a teen audience. She includes major subgenres and lists popular examples within each.
This is a great training tool for what we librarians can expect as we encounter teen patrons searching for a scary read.
